Foster Grandparent

Who is eligible to volunteer?
Applicants must be 60-years-of-age, or older. You must have an income under $11,225 if you're an individual, or under $15,150 if you're part of a couple. Transportation, a medical examination, and criminal and background checks are required. Obviously, candidates should enjoy spending time with children.

What are the benefits?
75% of Foster Grandparents surveyed reported that participation in the program gave them a renewed purpose in life. Supervisors in schools reported that 78% of the children served by a Foster Grandparent improved their reading skills. Supervisors in pre-school programs reported that 82% of the children served by a Foster Grandparent improved their ability to cooperate and share.

How do I become a Foster Grandparent?
Contact us. Following a telephone interview, we'll send you an application. Once you get the application back to us, you're well on your way to becoming a program member.

Why should I become a Foster Grandparent?
You'll receive an hourly stipend. This money is tax-free so it won't affect any benefits such as Social Security, Food Stamps, or housing assistance that you may currently receive. You'll also get vacation time, sick time, on-the-job accident and liability insurance, and transportation reimbursement. In addition, all Foster Grandparents receive ongoing training on a variety of topics including: Child Development, Disciplining Children, Child and Sexual Abuse, and Health Screenings. Probably the greatest reason to be a Foster Grandparent is knowing that you can make a real difference in a child's life.
